Strange Sights: Crazy dog lady March 13, 2012

Wish I could have taken a picture… On my way home from the bank today, I saw an old lady pushing a double stroller. I did a double take, because inside the stroller was about 5 or 6 little dogs poking their heads out. I’ve never seen anyone take their dogs for a walk quite in that way before!

Strange Sights at the Gym March 8, 2011

I have been going to a lovely gym for the past few months.  It’s new, clean, and giant.  It even has a sauna (though I’ve never used it…).  I never have to wait for a cardio machine, and rarely is there a wait for a specific weight machine.  I have seen a few strange things there so far, and after today’s debacle I thought it was time to share these sights with you.

  • On one of my first trips there, I was *fortunate* enough to witness a middle-aged man working out in his boxer-briefs.  At least they were navy blue and not white.  These were not spandex shorts, they were definitely boxer-briefs.  Weiner-flap and all.
  • The other day, I saw a teenage girl “working out” in her uggs.  Make that her fuggs.
  • A few days later, I saw the same fugg-girl ”working out” with a friend, also wearing fuggs.  I say “working out” because they were lightly bouncing around on exercise balls the whole time while chatting.
  • Today’s sight was great.  It was like watching America’s Funniest Home Videos live while doing cardio.  It was especially funny because there was Karma involved.  Two 40-something year old women were parked in a handicapped spot, though they were clearly not handicapped and didn’t have the appropriate sign for their car.  They pull forward since there was no car parked in the spot in front of them.  They didn’t notice the two giant orange pylons directly in front of their car.  They drive halfway down the lane before reversing, then stopping to get out and check below the car.  They don’t see the bright orange pylons, so keep going, then realize there actually is something wrong.  They pull in to an open spot, and once again fail to locate either giant, bright orange pylon stuck underneath their car.  The pull out again, only to realize yet again that something is wrong.  On the way to pulling in to the next spot, one pylon comes loose.  They eventually get the second one out, and go along their way.  The kicker is, as I’m leaving the gym I witness someone else pull out and get one of the bright orange pylons stuck under their car too.

Chri and I saw this in an airport bar, well past the security checkpoint.

Scammer September 16, 2010

Here we are at the local Timmies (though it’s here in ‘Merica, so far less busy than the average Canadian one).  Chri and I are treating ourselves to a Canadian favourite, when a 40-something year old man bursts in on a cell phone saying something like “Don’t worry sweetie, I’ll be there as soon as I can!”  He proceeds to approach the table nearest us, where there are two older ladies, with his sob story.  Apparently, he and his wife have recently flown in from out-of-town, and his wife was just taken to the hospital and is in labour.  Cause we all know that it’s perfectly safe to fly somewhere with your pregnant wife when she’s due to pop any day.

He was driving to the hospital with his mother-in-law when their car broke down.  Neither of them have their wallets on them (right, cause who needs to bring a driver’s license with them when they drive?), but he desperately needs to get to the hospital since him and his wife have been trying to have a baby for ten years and today is finally the day.  He wants cab fare, and their names so he can name the baby after them.  Sure.  They politely refuse the scammer, so he goes across the Timmies to the only other table of people, and successfully scams them.  He then runs out, in the opposite direction of where he claims the car has broken down, where supposedly, his mother-in-law is waiting for him to return with cab fare.

Which is worse:  speaking with your mouth full, or not saying “Thank You” to a waiter clearing a dish because your mouth is full?

Seen at the Detroit airport.  Yes, that’s right, it’s an Ipod vending machine.

Two buskers seen downtown on a Saturday night:  The girl was singing and playing guitar – normal enough, right?  The guy was playing glockenspiel along with her.  For my less-musical friends, that’s kinda like a mini-xylophone.  Strange!
