Chri and I have decided to cloth diaper our soon-to-be little wiggler, so I decided to make a bunch of cloth diapers. We bought a few to start with and compare, and turns out we like different features from different brands. I’m hoping the ones I’m making will work well, because I’m trying to incorporate all the features we like from the different brands into the ones I’m making.
We want to cloth diaper for a few reasons:
- Waaaaay cheaper in the long run (especially because I’ll be line-drying these bad boys), and we’re on a tight budget.
- Better for the environment (again, especially because I’ll be line-drying these bad boys). Even diapers that say they’re biodegradable don’t actually do so unless they’re exposed to enough light and air, which they aren’t in a landfill.
- Supposedly, the baby will be ready to potty train earlier. Woo-hoo!
- And finally, they’re just so much cuter than disposables!
I’m using Babyville Boutique products and patterns from here, along with several modifications. I modified the pattern to make them one-size so I can adjust the size of the diapers as the baby grows without having to make or buy bigger diapers. I also wanted to make them All-in-ones so we don’t have to stuff or remove inserts from them, but I didn’t like the All-in-one style in the book, so I’ve changed that quite a bit too. Anyhow, I still have some modifications I’d like to make to the pattern to better suit our needs, but here’s what I’ve done so far!
Aren’t they cute? I love the little ducks!
PS – My latest post on babycenter is up!

I too am a diy cloth diaper momma and for all the same reasons. Congrats and the diapers look great! I’ve taken to buying a lot of fabric from Hancock Fabrics to make fleece covers and my trial runs hav eorked out great. The fleece is up to 50% off right now. Are those pics newborn size, I’ve noticed there really is a big difference between the one size diapers and the newborn.
Thanks! I’m hoping they’ll fit my newborn, but I won’t know until May.
They’re about the same size as the bumGenius one-sizes that I bought though, and from what I’ve read about those ones they tend to be a little big on newborns. I have a feeling this little guy/girl will be on the big side, so hopefully they’ll fit soon after birth.
